Pretty quiet week in crypto this week, right?…
Not quite!
As anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock knows, we just saw our first Bitcoin ETF(s) hit the scene. But it wasn’t with out some last-minute drama, and brought to us by none other than the US Securities and Exchange Commission itself!
In a now-deleted-Tweet from Tuesday, the SEC “accidentally” told the public that the first BTC ETF was live. This anxiously-awaited announcement was then immediately pivoted on, with the Commission claiming that their X account was hacked.
This event didn’t go off without its repercussions, as there was some hefty sell/buy-action happening in what we can only assume was a response to the fake news.
What’s even more disturbing is that the SEC apparently didn’t even have 2FA set for its X account! 😱
We can confirm that the account @SECGov was compromised and we have completed a preliminary investigation. Based on our investigation, the compromise was not due to any breach of X’s systems, but rather due to an unidentified individual obtaining control over a phone number… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
